Mohali: Bahra Hospital launched a social initiative providing emergency response training to community members.
Dr. Ajay Angirish, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahra hospital said that 75 registered practitioners had already been given training as medical emergency responders.
He said community members within a radius of 5km of Bahra Hospital could register themselves for training.
Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Promoter of the Bahra Hospital, who is also Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, said that this social initiative would continue and dates for training would be announced periodically. Teachers, gym trainers, students and people from other fields could register for the one day training.
The first training programme was held by Dr Keerat Kaur Sibia, chest specialist and head of the critical care department, and Dr. Gurwinder Singh, Head of emergency services.
Dr. Sibia said that 70 per cent of cardiac arrests take place out of the hospital and the first fifteen minutes from the moment the heart stops pumping blood are most crucial.
The emergency responders are trained in what to do in such a situation step by step. The idea is that the responder knows how to keep the patient safe till emergency services reach and take over.
