Chandigarh: The last general house meeting chaired by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Sarbjit Kaur created ruckus. For a long time, the opposition surrounded the BJP on many issues, including the Mayor. When the situation became very tense, the marshals arrived to control the situation. The opposition said that these are goons of the BJP.
At the same time, the police force including SHO Om Prakash of Sector 17 police station also reached the spot. Congress councilor Gurpreet Singh alleged that women councilors were manhandled. The mayor has made it clear that all the councilors who were expelled will remain suspended till the next meeting. Most of them are councilors of AAP. And later AAP-Congress has boycotted the house.
Earlier, BJP workers also started raising slogans against the opposition. The BJP was raising slogans of ‘AAP goons be ashamed or else drown’. Recently, the administration issued orders of charging Rs 20 to 25 per transaction on 18 services in the sampark centers of the city.
The mayor accused the opposition that they were doing all this for a photo session. They have been asked to go and sit on their chairs. The opposition surrounded the BJP even on the challaning the vehicles parked outside the houses in the sectors.
The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilors in the House had made it clear that they would not allow the House to run until an answer was given regarding the tax being imposed on the people. At the same time, AAP councilor Prem Lata made a big allegation in the house that the mayor is benefiting private companies.
BJP robbing people’s pockets: AAP
AAP councilor Damanpreet said that the mayor had promised that the water rates in the city would not be increased. Despite this, water rates have increased and sewerage tax is also coming along with it. BJP is doing the work of robbing people’s pockets. He said that a common man is going to deposit the electricity bill to the government. He is giving revenue and he will also have to pay service charge for the same. He said that continuous experiments are being done in Chandigarh.
