Chandigarh: As per the instruction of the Election Commission of India, the Special Summary Revision of the Photo Electoral Roll, 2023, has begun from the 9th of November, 2022.
As part of SSR-2023, a review meeting with all the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and representatives of political parties was held on Thursday at the U.T. Secretariat, Sector 9, under the chairmanship of Vijay N. Zade, Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh; Vinay Pratap Singh, District Election Officer and Sorabh Arora, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Chandigarh.
Vijay N. Zade directed all AEROs to follow all the transparency measures directed by the ECI. Furthermore, the CEO directed AEROs to ensure the filing of advance applications for citizens aged 17 plus and enrollment of 18-year-old with four qualifying dates: 1st January, 1st April, 1st July, and 1st October.
Further Chief Electoral Officer directed AEROs to take the necessary measures to improve the enrollment of young voters with special focus on age group between 18 to 19 & 20 to 29 years, to cover the gender gap ratio, and also directed the AEROs to dispose of the forms in a timely manner by following the ECI’s guidance, AERO should follow the instruction of ECI while deleting of vote and keep an eye out for incorrect deletions.
They should advocate for underserved groups such as People with Disabilities and transgender people. In addition, Zade directed that all AEROs improve the voluntary Aadhar Linking process.
Vijay N Zade also requested the political party representatives to appoint Booth Level Agents in all 597 polling stations; the representatives have also been provided with the electoral roll and the list of claims and objections received, and the same is being uploaded on the CEO Chandigarh website, i.e., ceochandigarh.gov.in.
Chief Electoral Officer has also urged residents of Chandigarh, to check their names on the electoral roll on the special campaign dates of December 3 and 4, 2022, at their respective polling station locations.
Residents of Chandigarh, can also apply if they are not on the electoral roll or if their entries need to be corrected. They can also visit and meet the BLOs on the above-mentioned campaign dates.
