Chess Olympiad Torch arrives Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Chess Olympiad Torch arrived in Chandigarh this morning. Punjab Governor and UT administrator Banwari Lal Purohit was the chief guest on the occasion while Mayor Sarabjit Kaur was the guest of honour.
Torch was handed over to Grandmaster Deep Sengupta by the Governor at the Rock Garden, where hundreds of school children were also present for the event. Grandmaster Deep Sengupta also played chess with some students on the occasion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the inaugural torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad in New Delhi on June 19.
The torch will travel to 75 cities in 40 days before reaching Mahabalipuram, Chennai, which is hosting the Chess Olympiad.
In nearly 100 years of the history of the Chess Olympiad, it’s the first time that India will be hosting the significant event Chess Olympiad.
