Chandigarh: In light of the on-going Golden Jubilee celebrations, Department of Computer Science and Applications, Dean Student Welfare, NCC and NSS units of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh, organized an ‘Eye Donation Awareness Campaign’ in collaboration with Government Medical College, Sector-32, Chandigarh, and Netra Foundation.
The event commenced with a speech delivered by Sharanya Jain, the Founder and President of Netra Foundation.
Ms. Jain, an eleventh-standard student from Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh, started this non-profit organization for the betterment and upliftment of visually-impaired children.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar Arya, a Professor and the Head of Eye bank, Cornea and Refractive Surgery, GMCH-32, Chandigarh, presented the facts and myths about eye donation and appealed to the participants to sign the pledge for eye donation.
Visually impaired students from the Institute for the blind, Sector-26, Chandigarh presented a musical performance during the event to motivate other students for eye donation.
In order to highlight the need for eye donation and to encourage the youth to participate in this campaign, competitions in Poster making and slogan writing on the theme of “Eye donation” were also organized and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Vice Principal, Ms. Prabhjot Kaur, lauded the efforts of the Computer Science Department, DSW, NCC and NSS wing of the College for organizing the event and enlightening the students about this virtuous cause.
