G20 awareness events organised at MCM

Chandigarh: The Electoral Literacy Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, celebrated National Voters’ Day with enthusiasm. A voter card registration booth was set up in the campus where queries of the students were addressed and voter registeration was also done. It was followed by a pledge ceremony wherein Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava, 70 students and teachers pledged to vote with integrity. The song ‘Main Bharat hoon’ released by Election Commission of India was played after the pledge. The Club also conducted an online Essay Writing Competition on the theme ‘Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure’. The winners were awarded cash prizes and participation certificates were given to all the participants. A wall magazine on the theme ‘Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ was also created to generate awareness among the students about their electoral rights and duties. In another event, the Department of Political Science conducted activities and competitions to create awareness about G20 and India’s G20 Presidency- ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. An online lecture on ‘G20 and India’ was conducted by Dr Ritu Khosla, Head of the Department. She discussed about the functioning of G20 and made the audience aware about the major agendas that would be taken up by India during its Presidency. The lecture was followed by screening of video on G20 and its Legacy. The Department also conducted a Quiz on G20 and Poster Making competition on ‘India and G20’.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of Electoral Literacy Club and Political Science Department directed towards promoting electoral literacy and educating students about G20. She said that the knowledge about democratic processes, diplomacy and international affairs is imperative for raising conscious global citizens.
