GMADA owe ₹6 Crore property tax to MC Mohali

Crores of rupees as Property tax pending from various departments

Mohali : The Mohali Municipal Corporation is yet to recover huge amount as property tax from various Government departments, interestingly, the list of defaulters of Property tax in Mohali has most of the Government Departments, including GMADA- Mohali.
The Municipal Corporation authorities have issued letters to the government bodies to settle their dues at the earliest.
According to the figures of the Municipal Corporation, Gmada owes Rs 6 crore 21 lakh rupees to the Municipal Corporation as property tax. Not only GMADA, some other departments including police stations also owe property tax to Mohali Municipal Corporation.
Apart from GMADA, Police Department owes Rs 2.75 crores as property tax towards to Mohali Municipal Corporation while District Administrative Complex Mohali also owes Rs. 29,000
According to sources in Mohali Municipal Corporation, Mohali Municipal Corporation has earned Rs 44 Crore as property tax income in the financial year 2022-23.
Data shows that Rs 75 crores was collected in 2018-19, Rs 68 crores in 2019-20, Rs 61 crores in 2020-21, Rs 56 crores in 2021-22 were collected by Mohali Municipal Corporation as property tax.
Few days ago, Mohali MC staff has started a sealing drive after defaulters failed to clear pending property tax amount and had sealed 3 shops in Phase 7 over pending amount of property tax, officials of the Municipal Corporation said in this regard that the teams of the Municipal Corporation are working continuously to collect the pending amount of property tax.
The civic body had issued notices to tax defaulters under Sections 137 and 138 of the Municipal Corporation Act and gave them 10 days time to clear the dues.
Local Bodies Minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, few days ago in Bathinda had said, will recover property tax from defaulters.
Mohali MC introduced the tax in 2013-14.
