Mohali: A high-level health team of Andhra Pradesh visited the District hospital here today to see and understand the practices being followed for reduction in anemia and malnutrition among women and children and also to take stock of the health facilities being provided in the Mother and Child department. The team included officials from the health and women and child development departments of Andhra Pradesh. The team went to the various wards of the department to get detailed information about the health facilities being provided and also interacted with the patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh National Health Mission’s Child Health Consultant Dr. Vijay Kumar said that they have come on a three-day visit to Punjab on the instructions of the Andhra Pradesh government. The purpose of their visit is to understand the efforts being made by the Punjab government to reduce anemia and malnutrition in Punjab. He said that the whole country is facing problems like anemia and malnutrition among women and children, but the situation is much better in Punjab. He said that they have visited the Mother and Child wing of District Hospital Mohali and they are quite satisfied with the arrangements and services here. He added that compared to other states, deaths due to anemia and malnutrition are very less in Punjab, and the Andhra Pradesh government will be informed about the efforts being made in this regard. He said that they also interacted with the pregnant women in the hospital and saw that health services are being provided in an efficient manner and the behavior of the attending staff towards the patients is also quite good. They appreciated the efforts of Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur and all staff for providing quality healthcare services.
The team included K Narasimha Murthy-State Consultant from Child Development and Nutrition Department, District Woman and Child Welfare Officer K Praveena, Child Development and Project Officer Sheikh Yusuf Noorani. Dr. Inderdeep Kaur-State Nodal Officer MCH of Punjab Health Department, senior medical officers Dr. HS Cheema and Dr. Vijay Bhagat and other health officials and staff were also present.
