IPR workshop organised at RBU

Mohali: A workshop on Intellectual Property Rights was organised by the Intellectual Property office of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Rayat Bahra University.
Ashish Prabhat, Examiner of Patents and Designs IPR, was the Keynote speaker, he said that awareness about Intellectual Property Rights was the first and the foremost objective of the national IPR policy. There is a need to create IP awareness among all sections of the society as IP is creation of the mind and elaborated on the process of patent filing and guided the participants about patentable and non-patentable innovations.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Singh highlighted the significance of the awareness on IPR. He said that the main objective of intellectual property is to encourage innovation and provide incentives for innovation by granting temporary protection to inventors.
Dr Simerjit Kaur Shergill, Organising Secretary of the workshop, stressed on the need of IPR awareness as inadequate knowledge about the rights of individuals to protect their ideas and innovations and low awareness about the procedures involved in obtaining an IPR had hindered India’s growth in intellectual property.
With India’s potential and its importance in the global arena, it is time to rise to the occasion and become a leader in innovation and intellectual property, she added.
Prof BS Satyal, Registrar, Rayat Bahra University, proposed a vote of thanks and appreciated the information shared by the expert.
The workshop was followed by an interactive session with the participants.
