MCM celebrates Girl Child Day with Kalakriti

Chandigarh: To mark the celebration of National Girl Child Day, the Home Science Department of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a skill based three-day workshop ‘Kalakriti- Waste to Art’.
The workshop was held in association with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Mr. Samarth Sharma, Consultant, MGNCRE was the guest speaker for the inaugural session. He motivated the students to upgrade their skill sets and also made them aware about the activities being conducted under VENTEL for skill upgradation.
Ms. Darpanjot Kaur from the Department of Home Science was the resource person.
The participants were trained to create beautiful art pieces like bouquets and arrangement by utilising dry natural plant material collected from and around the college campus. Only waste material was utilised during the workshop.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of the Department to promote sustainable practices by converting waste into art. She further added that empowering girls by equipping them with skills that enhance their employability quotient is a befitting way to mark the celebration of Girl Child Day.
The prize winners were-
1st Prize: Niharika (B.A. I)
2nd Prize: Sonali (B.A. I)
3rd prize : Pranat (B.A.I)
Special Prize: Nupur (B.A. I)
34 students from various streams participated in the workshop. The best creations were awarded prizes and certificates.
