Chandigarh: In recognition of its crusade for the cause of environment conservation and awareness generation, Parivesh- the Eco Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh was awarded the Best Environment Society Award 2021 by the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava along with Dr. Neetu, Coordinator of MCM Eco Club and faculty members of the Club received the award in a ceremony wherein Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Director, Department of Environment was the Chief Guest.
The award includes a citation, a certificate and cash amount of Rs.15,000. In another accomplishment, Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Education, Government of India awarded appreciation certificate to the college for organising the largest environment awareness activity ‘Selfie with a Plant’ in the UT of Chandigarh.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava and Dr. Vandana Sharma, Nodal Officer were also awarded Certificate of Appreciation by MGNCRE for their outstanding efforts for the promotion of the cause of environmental conservation.
The employees and students of the institution shared their pictures while doing plantation and the certificate is the recognition of the institution’s contribution for raising environment awareness across Chandigarh. The members of teaching and non-teaching staff actively contributed by sending their selfies and by motivating the students to participate.
Dr. Nisha Bhargava said that these accolades add to the enviable list of green honours conferred upon the college that include Cleanest College (Residential Category) in the country (2018) by MHRD, Govt of India, Best Citizen led Initiative (2019) by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of India, Best Management of Wet Waste (2018) and Best Herbal Garden 2022 by Chandigarh Administration.
Dr. Nisha Bhargava added that the college is also proud to be a MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Govt of India recognised Swachhta Action Plan Institution, Social Entrepreneurship, Swachhta and Rural Engagement Cell Institution, VENTEL Action Plan Institution and Sustainable Campus.
