MCM holds 2-day course on Scientific Research Writing

Chandigarh: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in association with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, organised a two-day course on ‘The Art of Scientific Research Writing’ under Vocational Education, Nai Talim and Experiential Learning (VENTEL) Action Plan. The aim of this workshop was to empower the participants in characterising research ideas and selecting an appropriate Research Design. The workshop also envisioned to enhance the knowledge of students regarding various tools and techniques for comprehending research paper writing. The resource persons for this workshop were Mrs. Kiran Chandel from MGNCRE and Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Deepika Malik and Dr. Anila from the Food Science Department of the college. On day 1 of the workshop, Mrs. Kiran Chandel conducted an enriching session to help participants understand the meaning of research and research methodology. She shed light on the five W’s of research and discussed the case studies on some of the best researches around the world. On the second day, various sessions were conducted by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Deepika Malik and Dr. Anila on the format of report writing, basic search engines, referencing, different reference management tools and plagiarism in research writing. Various hands on exercises were conducted after each session to help the participants grasp the concepts effectively through practice. The workshop witnessed participation of over 40 students.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava highlighted the importance of scientific research writing for the students that will not only enable them to publish quality papers, reports and articles but will also play an important role in bridging the gap between scientists and the general public.
