Chandigarh : With the objective of enlightening students about the plethora of lucrative career opportunities in the field of Mass Communication, the Department of Mass Communication organised an awareness session. Dr. Preeti Gambhir, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication at the college educated the students about different avenues in print media, electronic media, new media, advertising, public relations, cinema, event management, web journalism, photography and research. Informing that student of any discipline can pursue a degree in Mass Communication, Dr. Gambhir asserted that backed by rising consumer demand and proliferation of mass media, there is no dearth of gainful opportunities in the Indian media and entertainment industry. In another initiative to provide exposure to the students and familiarise them with the intricacies of radio broadcasting, the Department organised an industrial visit to Mirchi studios. A total of 32 students were part of this informative visit that apprised them of the functioning of a FM station. The students of the Department also attended a special lecture by renowned journalist and author Pardeep Magazine held at Chandigarh Press Club. The budding journalists got the opportunity to learn the nuances of journalism and benefit from the expertise of Pardeep Magazine as he shared anecdotes from his journalistic journey.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava expressed appreciation for the endeavours of the Mass Communication Department aiming at widening the horizons of the students and bridging the industry-academia gap. She added that figuring among top Mass Communication institutions of the country for 5 consecutive years in India Today survey, MCM endeavours to provide best exposure to its students and has recently added a Recording Studio to the list of its state of the art infrastructure.
