Chandigarh : The NSS units and Medical Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh observed World No Tobacco Day with a Pledge ceremony.
The ceremony aimed to spread awareness among the youth about the potential risks of using tobacco and the environmental impact of the entire tobacco cycle, from its cultivation, production, and distribution to the toxic waste it generates. The students pledged to lay the foundation for a healthier India free from the menace of tobacco.fter the pledge ceremony, the NSS programme officers enlightened the volunteers about the significance of the day and motivated them to further generate awareness about it among the masses.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded this initiative to spread awareness in line with the WHO’s global campaign under the slogan ‘Tobacco: Threat to Our Environment’. She called for tobacco cessation as she pointed out that it poses serious threat to the environment besides being a health hazard.
