Chandigarh: The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Start-Up Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Mint Skills- a start-up, organised an internship programme for its students. Students of different streams applied for the programme and following interviews, 25 students were selected for internship. Mint Skills owners Dr. Swati Dhawan and Mr. Vikram Dhawan conducted 3-day orientation and training sessions for the selected interns wherein they were educated about academia-industry gap, the problem of unskilled workforce in India, ways to provide skill training in an economically feasible manner and participation of corporates in imparting practical training. The selected students would reach out and collaborate with more than 100 colleges in India for the Campus to Corporate Training Programme.
Principal of the college Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated this endeavour to bridge the industry-academia gap. She expressed hope that through this programme, the students will get an opportunity to emerge as job ready professionals by the time they graduate from the college.
