MCM UBA holds workshop on millets-based tiffin recipes

Chandigarh: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a workshop on Millets based Tiffin Recipes at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Kajheri. The main objective of the activity was to make the school students and members of the staff gain knowledge about millets, their classification, and their nutritional benefits. The resource person Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science at the college, highlighted the non-glutinous potency and rich nutritional value of different millets that are great source of zinc, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosphorous. She demonstrated four millet-based delicacies that included dalia, bhelpuri, chilla and idli. The Principal of the school Ms Gurmeet Kaur was all praises for the innovative way of popularising millets among school students.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava expressed appreciation for this endeavour of the college’s UBA Cell to educate students about the importance of indigenous millets for holistic health. She added that with changing lifestyle, diseases have become rampant and there is a need to create awareness regarding incorporation of sustainable crops like millets in day to day life to restore a healthy life.
