Mohali Health department starts drive to check edible oils

Mohali: A surveillance drive to check edible oil has been started in district Mohali. stated, Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur and District Health Officer Dr Subhash Kumar
DHO Dr Subash Sharma said that the drive which has been started from Aug 1 will continue till 14 Aug 2022 and added this drive is to test the Trans Fat and other parameters in edible oil.
Dr Sharma said, the team has collected two samples from Derabassi and remaining samples will be collected soon. A total of 10 samples of edible oil will be collected from shops across the district.
Dr Subhash Kumar said the drive to check the quality and durability of the sweets, especially the “Best Before Date” tag at the container/tray holding sweets is already going on. He reiterated that the Food Safety and Standards authority of India (FSSAI) had made it mandatory from October 1, 2020 to put up this tag.
DHO said that as per the norms, the tags must be affixed on the trays in every shop and the shopkeepers were already sensitized about this by the health department. He asked the shopkeepers not to sell expired items and pay special attention to cleanliness. He said that checking is not meant to harass anyone but to ensure that clean and quality food items were made available to the people.
