Mohali Residents demand prompt action against dead/ dangerous trees

Mohali: We all are aware about the incident that happened a few days back, in which a heritage tree fell at Carmel Convent School in Sector 9, killing a student. Since then, the administration has been trying to identify trees that can fall.
In Chandigarh, a committee has been constituted comprising officers from Engineering Department, Municipal Corporation, and Forest Department. Secretary Forest will now give approvals for the cutting of trees.
Pruning /pollarding or removal of dead /dry /dangerous standing trees will be approved by the concerned Department Head based under their jurisdiction so that such can be dealt with expeditiously. The execution of cutting/ felling to be continued to be carried out by Municipal Corporation.
The citizens will also be able to track their applications online.
Mohali Residents added the risk of trees falling is enhanced in the rainy season when rain weakens their roots and wishes from the Administration to form a committee as it has been formed in Chandigarh and act well in advance to reduce the risk of loss life and property.
