Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s residence challaned Rs 10000/- for littering
Chandigarh: With an aim to deal strictly with those who threw garbage or other items on roads and public places a challan amounting to Rs 10,000/-for littering was issued by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MOH Wing) to officials at Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s residence House No7 in Sector 2 this morning.
MC officials said garbage was being dumped outside on the footpath daily, marring the beauty of the area.
Area Councillor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu said, “I was repeatedly getting complaints from residents about littering by the staff and visitors of the Punjab CM’s residence for quite some time. Despite repeated requests and warnings by the sanitation staff the littering continued, so the challan was issued. Hope they maintain cleanliness now. The Chief Minister is supposed to set an example for others but here his own house is not in order.”
The challan was issued in the name of CRPF Batallion 113, DSP Harjinder Singh, official on duty at the CM’s residence, but as per the copy of Challan it states refused to sign.
Earlier, Anindita Mitra, MC Commissioner, said dumping garbage or littering in streets or parks was a thing of the past. The MC had planned to deal strictly with those who threw garbage or other items on roads and public places.
Municipal Commissioner, Chandigarh had issued strict orders to trace miscreants in the city and identify those who littered the streets and public places with garbage and penalise them. She had directed the inspectors concerned to take pictures of the offenders dumping trash and impose fine on the violators.
