Chandigarh: The Punjab health department on Monday issued an advisory in the wake of the H3N2 influenza outbreak, stressing on timely initiation of treatment to reduce morbidity and mortality related to the virus
In a letter to civil surgeons and principals of medical colleges, instructions have been issued for preparedness and treatment.
Directions have been issued to ensure that all cases having influenza-like illnesses are segregated and sampling is done.
The medical and paramedic staff has been asked to wear masks and gloves while dealing with ILI patients.
Hospitals should be well equipped with complete logistics for H3N2, and maintenance of isolation wards and ventilators.
Isolation wards should have a supply of oxygen and functional suction machines along with drugs
Mild symptomatic cases are to be advised quarantine and use of personal protection like masks and hand sanitisation. The management of suspected ILI, SARI cases and confirmed cases should be undertaken as per the guidelines framed by the central government.
