Mohali: Prof PK Seth, Honorary Scientist in the National Academy of Sciences in India, and a former CEO and Director CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology, here today underlined the significance of biotechnology growth engines.
He was speaking at a webinar organised by the
Rayat Bahra University organized a ‘Biotechnology growth engine for Atamnirbhar Bharat-2022’ in collaboration with Indian Science Congress Association (Chandigarh Chapter).
He stated that biotechnology growth engine is the process of transforming life science knowledge into new, sustainable, eco-efficient and competitive products. He added that biotechnology will continue to be a major contributor to the Bio-Economy, playing an essential role in support of economic growth, employment, energy supply and a new generation.
He discussed in detail the various bioprocesses in healthcare and development, biotechnology innovations, biotechnology parks, clusters and various funding agencies in the area of biotechnology.
The webinar was organised under the patronage of Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor and Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University.
Eminent experts of the session were introduced by Dr RC Sobti, former Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, who has been working extensively in the area of biotechnology.
Prof. V.P. Kamboj, Former Director, CDRI, who chaired the session, in his presidential remarks disclosed that the statistics on biofuels industry were leading in the area of biotechnology growth engine. He said with ethanol conversion, the farm yield could be increased by four times.
The event was coordinated by Dr Simerjit Kaur, Dean Students Welfare.
