Mohali: Roadsides, in Mohali are laden with huge Africana fruits and several cases of commuters getting injured after being directly hit by a fallen balam kheera fruit are being reported in Mohali.
Residents have also complained of dents and heavily cracked windscreens of their vehicle with an unfortunate incident due to hit by Balamkheera on a stretch that begins from Dara Studio, Phase 1 and continues till Yadvindra Public School, Mohali.
It is estimated that there are more than 400 such trees in Mohali.
It is pertinent to mention here that, a complaint in this regard was filed in the Permanent Lok Adalat by a Mohali-based resident Atul Sharma, in the past, the GMADA officials were directed to pluck all the balam kheera fruits from trees on the said stretch within a stipulated time and the same was done.
Presently, the situation is changed, “Earlier the charge of all of these was with Gmada (Greater Mohali Area Development Authority), but now as it has been transferred to the municipal corporatation (MC).
Residents complain that the authorities just keep passing the buck to each other and no step is being taken in the interest of local residents and commuters and concerned officials and elected councillors appear to be disinterested in working for the public safety.
