Chandigarh : Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, engages, sensitizes and empowers the students of the institution towards the cause of gender equality. To assert the same, Gender Champions’ Club in association with Department of Sociology of the College organized a Special Talk on the topic of “Gender Stereotypes and Women Empowerment”.
The Guest Speaker for the event was Dr. Bindu Dogra, Senior Assistant Professor at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College, Chandigarh. Speaking on the occasion , the speaker focused on the gender stereotypes prevalent in the society and how these stereotypes restrict the empowerment of women in the society. The speaker also explained the concept of women empowerment and the various dimension and parameters associated with it. The speaker suggested some ways to change the stereotypical mind set for attaning the goals of effective women empowerment in the society.
Dr.Jaswinder Kaur, Head of Department of Sociology, delivered a vote of thanks and thanked the Dr. Bindu Dogra for giving important insights on gender equality. More than 150 students of the college had participated in the session.
College Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur applauded the efforts of the organisers and expressed hope that the students would reap maximum benefit out of the rare occasion.
