Mohali: As the Registration and Licensing Authority, is getting stricter for implementation of mandatory high security registration plate (HSRPs) and third registration mark (colour-coded sticker) on all old and new vehicles registered in the city.
Tractor trolleys, without any number plate, carrying materials can be frequently seen in Mohali and Chandigarh, but the transport department or the traffic police have never tried to look into this matter.
Many vehicles can be seen plying without the mandatory registration number. It seems the police are indifferent when it comes to take action against such vehicles, as police do not take action against the violators.
Every vehicle must be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1989. It is considered illegal to drive without a registration number.
Residents added “The traffic police have to keep a strict vigil on the vehicles running without number plates in the city”.
Punjab State Transport Commissioner has clearly said that any vehicle which plays on the road without a high security plate, will be challaned now. According to section 41 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and section 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rule 1989, it is necessary to affix High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on the vehicles.
