Outsourced service workers strike, system affected

The Aman Sandesh Times

Chandigarh : Following the strike of PGIMER’s outsourced hospital attendants in Chandigarh from October 10, 2024, the organization has initiated an emergency plan to maintain essential services. OPD registration will continue as normal and patients will be screened at various OPDs. ICU and emergency services will function without any interruption. However, all elective surgeries have been postponed from October 11 and patients will be informed accordingly.
Also, no new replacements will be recruited from October 11. Hospitals in Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh have been requested not to refer patients to PGIMER during this period. The Institute appeals to the public for cooperation and patience in these challenging times.
Hundreds of patients and their families who came for treatment at the hospital faced a lot of hardship due to the strike by the attendants of the outsourced hospital in PGI Chandigarh. The administration has taken necessary steps in view of this situation but the impact on normal services could not be avoided. In fact, the employees have not received arrears for the last eight months.
Hundreds of patients of PGIMER are suffering due to this strike. Patients visiting the OPD have to wait for hours in long queues. Patients whose surgery was already scheduled are now being informed that the surgery has been postponed, causing frustration among the patients and their families.
All elective surgeries have been postponed from October 11, due to which the treatment of patients suffering from serious diseases is also being postponed. In such a situation, patients suffering from cancer, heart disease and other serious diseases are facing a lot of difficulties.
The organization has appealed to people to exercise patience and restraint. A hospital spokesperson said, “We know these are difficult times but we are doing everything we can to get patient services back to normal as soon as possible. We request the public to support us in this challenging time.”
