Mohali : Mohali Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has strongly objected to the giving of ten acres of land for a separate Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh, calling it another stab in the back of Punjab by BJP. He said that BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar and Ravneet Singh Bittu, who is beating the drum of proving himself to be the messiah of the present Punjab, should either clarify their stand on this or resign from their posts.
Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said that Chandigarh was built by occupying the land of the villages of Punjab and hence Chandigarh should be the capital of Punjab itself. He said that when Haryana became a new state, the new state always had a separate capital which could have been made in Panchkula, Gurgaon or any other city in Haryana. He said that the BJP has deliberately played this dirty trick to weaken Punjab’s claim on Chandigarh.
Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said that it is a great weakness of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that such a big decision to give land for the Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh was taken and the Chief Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab government only kept watching. He said that with this, Punjab’s case for claiming Chandigarh will be further weakened.
He said that this step of the Bharatiya Janata Party is like rubbing salt on the wounds of Punjab because Punjabis’ villages were razed to make Chandigarh. “The decision taken by the central government today, is another stab in the back of Punjab,” the Deputy Mayor said.
Kuljit Singh Bedi demanded that the BJP immediately withdraw this decision. He also asked the Chief Minister of Punjab that the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab government should stand firm against this decision and strongly oppose this decision for the rights of Punjab.
He said that it has come to light that the BJP and RSS have this idea that the claim of Punjab over Chandigarh should be permanently weakened and that is why land for separate Haryana Vidhan Sabha has been given in Chandigarh. He said that the people of Punjab will give a befitting reply to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the by-elections because the people of Punjab have understood the cunning tricks of the BJP.
