THE AMAN SANDESH TIMES
Chandigarh :
In one of the largest operations to date, Chandigarh Police launched a major offensive against the city’s immigration mafia. In a sweeping crackdown led by SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, more than 100 immigration consultancy offices were raided in a single day, resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals, while several operators fled, locking up their offices before the raids.
The operation began at 9 AM and spanned major commercial hubs including Sectors 17, 34, 3, 26, and 39. Police teams were deployed throughout the day, scrutinizing documents and sealing non-compliant offices well into the night.
Unlicensed, Illegal Firms Busted
According to police sources, most of the firms targeted were operating illegally—without registration, licenses, or proper consultancy permits. These companies allegedly duped youth by promising student and work visas for countries like Canada, Australia, and the UK, charging hefty fees. In many cases, fake documents were fabricated, leading to visa denials or deportations for unsuspecting applicants.
16 FIRs Registered, Manhunt for Absconders
A total of 16 FIRs were lodged across five police stations:
Sector 17: 6 cases
Sector 3: 4 cases
Sector 34: 3 cases
Sector 26: 2 cases
Sector 39: 1 case
Several offices were sealed, and police teams have been formed to track down those who managed to escape. The accused have been booked under various sections related to fraud, forgery, and regulatory violations.
Second Major Action in Three Months
This operation is the second major crackdown by Chandigarh Police against immigration fraud within three months. In a previous case, police busted a large-scale scam involving an unlicensed firm in Sector 34, recovering luxury cars, fake passports, visa letters, and large amounts of cash from the accused.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur’s Stern Warning
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur issued a strong warning to those exploiting the dreams of youth in the name of immigration. “We will not spare anyone involved in duping people under the guise of sending them abroad. We are actively acting on complaints, and stricter action will follow,” she said.
Police Advisory: Verify Before You Trust
Chandigarh Police has urged citizens to verify the credentials of immigration consultants before making any payments. “Always check the agency’s license, registration, and track record. Do not fall for guarantees or promises that seem too good to be true,” the police advised.
Widespread Immigration Fraud Becomes a Public Threat
Immigration consultancy has become a booming industry in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas. However, the increasing number of fraud cases poses a serious challenge to law and order. Tuesday’s police action has been widely welcomed by the public as a much-needed step to rein in the fraudulent practices ruining the future of aspiring students and workers.
