Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a significant yet informal interaction with an all-party parliamentary delegation on Tuesday evening, where Members of Parliament engaged in open and candid discussions on India’s foreign policy, the global fight against terrorism, and India’s role on the international stage.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor described the meeting as cordial and heartfelt. He shared that the Prime Minister walked across the lawns, engaging in informal conversations with various groups of MPs, creating a relaxed atmosphere free from a rigid agenda. Tharoor added that instead of formal reports, MPs shared personal insights and constructive suggestions.
Congress leader Manish Tewari termed the meeting a “new style of initiation,” emphasizing that despite being informal, it was deeply meaningful. He called it a significant step toward building a global alliance against nations that support terrorism and expressed hope that the Ministry of External Affairs would take forward the opportunities identified during these parliamentary visits.
PM Hints at Formation of ‘Maitri Manch’
AAP MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney revealed that the Prime Minister met each MP personally and assured the formation of a dialogue platform and a “Maitri Manch” (Friendship Forum). Sahney also noted that India would invite global think tanks to enhance strategic dialogue and cooperation.
Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai shared that he submitted a detailed travel report to the Prime Minister, outlining international support India has garnered in its fight against terrorism. PM Modi reportedly appreciated the report and responded positively.
Owaisi Unable to Attend Due to Medical Emergency
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi could not attend the meeting due to a medical emergency that required urgent travel to Dubai. He informed delegation leader Baijayant Panda of his absence in advance.
The meeting concluded with a shared understanding between the government and the opposition that India must present a united front on global platforms, especially when dealing with critical issues like terrorism. While informal in nature, the outcomes of this dialogue are expected to have lasting strategic implications.
