Shoddy Road Work in Ward No. 1, Mohali Sparks Outrage as Monsoon Approaches

THE AMAN SANDESH TIMES

Mohali :

The ongoing road scarification work in Ward No. 1, being carried out under Phase 2 and Phase 3A in Mohali, has become a major cause of concern for local residents. What was initially intended as a much-needed development project has now turned into a source of distress due to poor execution and apparent negligence by the concerned authorities.

Senior Congress leader Raja Kanwarjot Singh has raised serious allegations, stating that the work has been left incomplete in multiple areas. Construction debris and leftover materials are reportedly scattered across roadways, making it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to move safely. “There’s leftover material lying all over the place. It’s dangerous, especially for children and the elderly,” added a local resident, voicing frustration over the deteriorating conditions.

Even more worrying is the blocked state of the road gullies, which play a crucial role in storm-water drainage. These drains are reportedly clogged with silt and waste from the ongoing construction, prompting fears that they will fail to function properly during the monsoon. “With the monsoon just around the corner, we are worried that water will not drain properly, leading to severe flooding in our area,” a resident warned. A video highlighting the issue has also been circulated on social media by concerned locals.

The situation has been aggravated by the complete absence of supervision. According to eyewitness accounts, no official from the Municipal Corporation or the contractor’s team has been seen on-site to assess the work or respond to complaints. The lack of oversight has left residents feeling neglected and has raised questions about the responsible use of public funds.

Raising voice for the residents, Raja Kanwerjot Singh have now demanded immediate action and has called for the prompt removal of debris, desilting of gullies, and completion of the project to a satisfactory standard before the onset of rains. “The condition of the roads is unacceptable. Authorities must act now before the situation worsens and causes real harm to the community,” said a community leader.

Responding to the concerns, Jaspreet Kaur, the Municipal Councillor of the area, stated, “I will take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that the residents and the public do not have to suffer under any circumstances.”

With public frustration mounting, residents are urging the Municipal Corporation to hold negligent contractors and officials accountable. The call for transparency, timely execution, and quality control in civic infrastructure projects is now louder and more urgent than ever.
