CISF Made RSO to Strengthen Port Security

New Delhi :

The government has designated the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as a Recognized Security Organization (RSO) under the ISPS Code to enhance India’s port security framework. The move supports port-based development and the growth of the Blue Economy.
Following a study by a joint CISF-DG Shipping committee, CISF will now conduct Port Facility Security Assessments (PFSA) and develop security plans for all EXIM ports, addressing gaps at smaller ports.
A hybrid security model will be implemented: CISF will handle core security, while state police, SISF, or private security agencies may manage non-core duties like gate control and traffic management.
Mandatory training for private security personnel will be conducted by CISF experts, with pilot sessions already completed at JNPA, Mumbai, and CHPA, Chennai. A dedicated training institution is proposed to standardize certification and improve workforce readiness.
These measures aim to ensure safer, more efficient, and modern ports, strengthening logistics and contributing to a secure and sustainable Blue Economy.
