MC Meeting Highlights Political Moves Ahead of Mayoral Polls

Chandigarh :

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation held its final house meeting of the year with Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria in attendance. The session comes amid heightened political activity ahead of mayoral elections, with parties closely watching councillors’ loyalties.
The ruling BJP has secured support from two AAP councillors, giving it a numerical edge with 18 councillors against 17 for the AAP-Congress alliance. Meanwhile, opposition parties are trying to reclaim members and prevent further poaching.
Key development proposals on the agenda include the 24×7 drinking water supply plan, commercial waste collection MoU, 54th Rose Festival, fire standby duty charges, and supplementary proposals like renting vacant Smart City offices, e-auction of nursery sites, and maintenance of garbage collection vehicles.
The controversial Pocket Number-6 in Mani Majra remains under close watch. The meeting is expected to influence both development priorities and the upcoming mayoral polls.
