Mohali:
Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh on Monday visited the District Hospital, Mohali, to review the treatment being provided to patients under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme (MMSY) and interacted with beneficiaries availing free medical services under the scheme.
During the visit, the MLA met Nirmal Kaur (53), a resident of Sunny Enclave, who became Punjab’s first patient to undergo a successful surgery under MMSY. She had undergone an appendicitis surgery on January 27 and has since been discharged. She visited the hospital for a follow-up check-up today.
Interacting with patients admitted under the scheme, Kulwant Singh said that people are highly satisfied with MMSY as there is no income-based eligibility condition. Patients informed him that registration was done immediately at the OPD counter using their Aadhaar and voter cards, enabling them to receive timely treatment.
Patients Santosh from Balongi and Amandeep Kaur of Morinda (Kainaur), currently admitted at the hospital, expressed gratitude to the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, stating that the scheme providing cashless healthcare up to ₹10 lakh has proved to be a boon for common people.
Dr Navdeep Saini, Executive Director Principal, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali, said that all patients requiring surgery or indoor treatment are being extended benefits under MMSY. He informed that 78 patients are currently undergoing treatment under the scheme at the district hospital attached to the medical college.
Speaking to the media, MLA Kulwant Singh said that around 3,500 registrations have been completed under MMSY in Mohali district so far. He assured that all eligible residents with Aadhaar and voter cards will be registered under the scheme. He clarified that no prior registration is required in emergency cases, as registration is carried out on the spot by the concerned hospital.
The MLA added that the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in the presence of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, will prove to be a landmark initiative for Punjab, as it ensures free treatment up to ₹10 lakh in government and empanelled private hospitals.
On the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Karnbir Singh, and Dr Manish Gupta were also present.
