Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa Appointed Chief Agriculture Officer

Mohali : The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Punjab, has appointed Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa as the Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) of Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar through special orders.Dr. Bajwa assumed charge on February 9, 2026, taking over responsibilities in one of Punjab’s key agricultural districts.
Dr. Bajwa holds an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics, which he completed in 1993 from Khalsa College, Amritsar. He began his career in 1996 as Agricultural Development Officer (District Cum) in Rajpura, District Patiala, and served in this role until 2021. Following his promotion as Agricultural Officer in 2021, he held positions as Assistant Sugarcane Commissioner in the Office of Director of Agriculture, Punjab, and Block Agriculture Officer in Derabassi. In 2025-26, Dr. Bajwa was promoted to Deputy Director Agriculture (LCPP) before taking charge as Chief Agriculture Officer, SAS Nagar. During his tenure, he has emphasized ensuring that farmers benefit from government schemes and that high-quality agricultural inputs are supplied consistently.

On the occasion of his appointment, Dr. Gurmel Singh, who has been promoted from Chief Agriculture Officer, SAS Nagar, to Joint Director Agriculture, Punjab, congratulated Dr. Bajwa. Addressing officers and employees of the department, Dr. Bajwa urged them to work proactively for farmers’ welfare and efficient implementation of government initiatives.Dr. Bajwa’s appointment is expected to strengthen agricultural governance in SAS Nagar and further enhance support to farmers in the district.
His long-standing experience in agricultural administration and development is seen as a valuable asset for ensuring effective delivery of government schemes and programs.The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare continues to focus on improving agri cultural productivity, supporting farmers, and promoting modern farming practices across Punjab. Dr. Bajwa’s leadership is expected to play a significant role in advancing these objectives and addressing the evolving needs of the farming community.
