Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain has appealed to people suffering from mental illnesses and their family members to take full advantage of the Tele-MANAS helpline, stating that the service is proving highly beneficial for individuals facing mental health challenges.
She informed that Tele-MANAS services can be accessed from home through the toll-free helpline numbers 1800-89-14416 or 14416, and assured that complete confidentiality of callers is strictly maintained.
Launched by the Government of India on October 10, 2022, Tele-MANAS aims to promote mental health awareness and enhance psychological well-being across the country. It is a 24×7 free national helpline providing mental health counselling and guidance.
Dr. Jain said that through this service, patients can connect with psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors and social workers to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, exam stress, substance abuse, loneliness, financial stress, crisis situations and family-related issues. The facility is available in more than 20 languages, making it accessible to people across diverse regions.
Health officials highlighted that Tele-MANAS also offers online appointment booking, video consultations for medication guidance, and in-person services when required. The initiative is especially beneficial for people living in rural and remote areas, where mental health awareness and facilities are limited.
Emphasizing confidentiality as a key feature, Dr. Jain said the identity and information of callers remain completely secure, enabling individuals to discuss their concerns without fear or hesitation.
She added that Tele-MANAS has emerged as a reliable support system for youth, students, working professionals, women, elderly citizens and other vulnerable sections of society, bridging the gap in mental healthcare services across geographical boundaries.
