
Mohali : Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission Vice Chairperson Surinder Kalyan reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Safai Sewaks and Sewermen across the state, stating that exploitation of sanitation workers would not be tolerated.
During his visit to Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Kalyan chaired a review meeting with officials of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils and the District Administration.
He directed the concerned authorities to address the issues raised by Safai Sewaks on priority and ensure time-bound resolution.
The Vice Chairperson heard representations from Safai Sewak unions of Kurali, Mohali and Nayagaon. He instructed local bodies to promptly forward pending regularisation cases to the Local Government Department and avoid unnecessary delays.
Emphasising dignity and improved working conditions, Kalyan described Safai Sewaks as “soldiers of the nation” who shoulder the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness and managing waste.
He underlined that their demanding work deserves respect, proper facilities and protection of human rights.
He also directed officials to provide uniforms to Safai Sewaks as per entitlement and warned that the Commission would take strict cognizance of any violation of their rights. Kalyan further announced that the Commission would conduct visits across all districts to monitor ground realities and ensure effective implementation of welfare measures.
Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Mohali, Jasjit Singh, assured that issues raised during the meeting would be resolved within a stipulated timeframe. Senior district and municipal officials were present at the meeting.
