
Mohali : To celebrate International Women’s Day, a district-level Health and Employment Camp was organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College, Phase-6, Mohali. The camp was conducted by the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development in collaboration with the Employment Department, Health Department and Rural Development Department. The initiative aimed to promote women’s health and provide employment opportunities for youth in the district.
During the camp, a total of 375 women underwent general and specialised health check-ups. Medical teams provided consultations and basic diagnostic services to women attending the programme.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sonam Chaudhary attended the event as the chief guest. She, along with District Programme Officer Nikhil Arora, DBEE Incharge, Principal of Government College Phase-6 Jaspreet Bains, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangita Jain, and Child Development Project Officers Gursimran Kaur (Kharar), Sukhmaneet Kaur (Majri) and Suman (Derabassi), distributed offer letters to selected candidates during the event.
To support women’s health and wellbeing, baby kits were distributed to mothers of newborn girls, while women who participated in the health check-up camp received health kits. Each kit contained essential items such as a first-aid box, thermometer, glucometer, wipes and sanitary napkins.
As part of the employment drive, 21 companies participated in the placement camp, offering more than 800 job opportunities. Prominent recruiters included Axis Bank, R.S. Manpower Provider, Murari Services, V5 Global Services and LIC. A total of 242 candidates appeared for the recruitment process conducted during the event. The programme also showcased products made by women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs). Stalls displaying handwoven dupattas, traditional phulkari work, organic honey, desi ghee and other locally produced items were set up, promoting women entrepreneurship and supporting local livelihoods in the district. Officials said the camp aimed to empower women through health awareness, employment opportunities and support for small-scale entrepreneurship.
