Kulwant Singh Grants 5 Lakh to 13 Villages for Unanimous Panchayats

Mohali : Kulwant Singh today distributed cheques of ₹5 lakh each to sarpanches of 13 villages in the Mohali constituency, rewarding panchayats formed through unanimous consensus. The announcement was made during a press conference held at his office in Sector 79. The initiative is part of the Punjab government’s effort, led by Bhagwant Mann, to promote harmony and unity in rural areas.
The government had earlier announced financial incentives for villages that formed panchayats without disputes, aiming to prevent factionalism and encourage collective decision-making.Villages that received the grants include Dhirpur, Raipur Khurd, Giddarpur, Midde Majra, Safipur, Matran, Saini Majra, Kelo, Daerai, Jagatpura, and New Landran. Sarpanches and panchayat members from these villages were present at the event.
Kulwant Singh appreciated the efforts of village communities for rising above political affiliations and forming consensus-based panchayats.
He said this reflects strong social unity and contributes significantly to grassroots development. “It is a matter of pride that my constituency is known for its harmony and brotherhood,” he added.
The MLA emphasized that his party did not interfere in panchayat elections, allowing people to elect their representatives freely. He contrasted this with previous governments, alleging that earlier regimes often imposed candidates or influenced local elections.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, Kulwant Singh stated that over 65,000 youth have been provided employment in Punjab in the past four years.
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among youth through the construction of sports stadiums across the state.
The event witnessed the presence of several local leaders and sarpanches, who expressed gratitude for the financial support and reaffirmed their commitment to village development.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen rural governance and encourage peaceful, consensus-driven leadership in villages, ensuring sustainable development at the grassroots level.
