Chandigarh :
Kewal Singh Dhillon today formally assumed charge as the new Punjab BJP president, outlining an ambitious agenda focused on farmers’ welfare, industrial growth, and tackling the drug menace in the state.
Addressing party leaders and workers after taking over, Dhillon expressed confidence in leading the party to greater success in Punjab. “I have won against odds earlier also,” he said, while crediting former state BJP presidents for strengthening the party’s base.
Emphasising the importance of agriculture, Dhillon described farmers as the backbone of Punjab and promised policies aimed at ensuring better returns. He said the BJP would work towards providing MSP on all crops and encourage crop diversification through incentives.
Highlighting his vision for economic development, Dhillon said Punjab has immense potential to emerge as a major industrial hub. He advocated the establishment of agri-based industries and high-tech manufacturing units, including semiconductor industries, with the goal of transforming Punjab into the “Taiwan of India.”
The new BJP chief also raised concern over the growing drug problem in the state, describing it as a social crisis that has devastated many families. He pledged a strong and sustained campaign against drug trafficking and addiction.
Party workers welcomed Dhillon’s appointment, viewing it as a significant step in strengthening the BJP’s organisational presence in Punjab ahead of upcoming political challenges.
