Deputy Mayor Warns Against Fake Milk and Paneer, Calls for Strict Action

Mohali :

Adulteration in daily-use items like milk and paneer has emerged as a major public health threat in Mohali, prompting Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi to call for urgent government intervention.
In a letter to the Punjab Chief Minister, Bedi highlighted the rampant sale of fake milk and chemically treated paneer, noting that the city’s rapidly growing population has not been matched by an increase in livestock or genuine milk supply. He raised concerns about the source of such large quantities of milk and paneer and pointed out the lack of government data and public awareness.
Bedi emphasized that consumption of adulterated products is causing serious illnesses, especially among the elderly and children, forcing families to spend heavily on healthcare. He demanded an increase in Food Safety Department staff and monthly sampling of milk and paneer to curb the menace.
The Deputy Mayor warned that sellers of fake milk and paneer should face stringent legal action, comparable to serious crimes, and urged the government to take immediate steps to protect public health.
