Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Councillor of Ward No. 24, Jasbir Singh Bunty, celebrated Labour Day with the Road Wing employees at the Community Centre in Sector 42, Chandigarh.
Addressing the gathering, Bunty shared his thoughts with the workers and highlighted the significance of Labour Day. He emphasized that the day is dedicated to honouring the contributions of workers, protecting their rights, and acknowledging their vital role in society’s progress.
Speaking candidly, he pointed out the injustices faced by workers, stating that despite their tireless efforts, many are still struggling with delayed salaries, sometimes pending for two to three months. “These workers, who are the backbone of our cities and have contributed immensely to national development, are still waiting to receive their rightful dues. They are forced to struggle to support their families,” he said.
Bunty urged society to recognize the dignity of labour and treat workers with respect and fairness. “Labourers are an inseparable part of our community. We must understand and uphold their rights and ensure they receive the respect and recognition they truly deserve,” he added.
The event served as a platform for acknowledging the dedication of the municipal workforce and raising awareness about their issues.
