Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has dismissed Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar following the alleged suicide of a Punjab Warehousing Corporation officer, triggering a major political controversy in the state.
The deceased officer, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, was serving as a District Manager in Amritsar. He reportedly consumed a poisonous substance and later died during treatment at a hospital. Before his death, Randhawa recorded a video in which he accused Minister Bhullar of subjecting him to pressure, harassment, and mental torture.
The video, which surfaced after his death, has intensified the controversy, with opposition parties demanding strict action and accountability. The allegations have raised serious concerns over alleged political interference and pressure on government officials.
Taking swift action, Chief Minister Mann ordered the removal of Bhullar from the Cabinet and directed Chief Secretary KAP Sinha to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to Randhawa’s death.
Mann stated that any form of political pressure resulting in such a tragic outcome would not be tolerated. “The loss of a government officer under such circumstances is deeply unfortunate. Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible,” the Chief Minister said, assuring a fair and transparent probe.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among government employees and political circles, with calls for safeguarding officials from undue pressure. Meanwhile, authorities have begun an inquiry into the case, and further action is expected based on the findings of the investigation.The development marks a significant moment in Punjab politics, highlighting concerns over administrative pressure and accountability within the system.
