Pb to Build 250-Crore Convention Centre, 25,000 Jobs

 

Mohali : The Government of Punjab on today announced the development of a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Exhibition and Convention Centre (ECC) in Mohali, aimed at boosting investment, tourism, and employment.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora said the project will be developed near IT City in Sector 83, close to key institutions and corporate hubs. The ECC will be built on around 14 acres under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Exhicon Events Media Solutions Ltd as the developer. The estimated cost of the project is ₹250 crore, with a concession period of 15 years.
The project will be completed in two phases, with Phase 1 targeted by December 2026 and Phase 2 by December 2027. The facility will include large column-free exhibition halls of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. and 15,000 sq. ft., conference and breakout rooms, retail and food zones, and parking space for at least 1,000 vehicles.
Designed as a multi-functional venue, the ECC will host national and international conferences, trade fairs, exhibitions, corporate events, and cultural programmes. It is expected to accommodate 5,000–10,000 delegates and support events with up to 15,000 attendees.
The project will also incorporate modern infrastructure, advanced IT and audio-visual systems, efficient logistics planning, and sustainable design features aligned with GRIHA 5-Star standards.
Minister Arora highlighted that the initiative, under the leadership of Bhagwant Singh Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, will strengthen Punjab’s position as a major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) hub.
The ECC is expected to generate between 15,000 and 25,000 jobs in its initial years, while boosting sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and services.
Officials said the project will play a key role in transforming Mohali into a modern IT and business hub, enhancing the state’s global investment appeal.
