Fire at Garbage Dump Phase-5 Triggers Panic, Residents Protest

Mohali :

A major fire broke out late at night in a heap of dry leaves and garbage lying in an open ground outside an RMC point in Phase-5, triggering panic in the area.
The incident caused severe inconvenience to residents of Phase-4 and Phase-5, as well as those in the nearby industrial area. Thick smoke spread across the locality, leading to breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and discomfort among residents.
Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot, and nearly half a dozen fire tenders worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control. No loss of life or property was reported.
Residents Protest, Lock RMC Gate
Angry residents from Phase-4, Phase-5, and Shahimajra village gathered at the site and locked the gate of the RMC point. They warned that their protest would continue until the dumping point is removed.
During the protest, a heated argument broke out between former mayor Amarjeet Singh Jeeti Sidhu and Akali leader Kuldeep Kaur Kang.
Earlier Warning Ignored
Former deputy mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi had earlier visited the site and warned about the potential fire hazard, which eventually turned into reality.
Several local leaders and residents, including Jagdish Singh Jagga, Kamalpreet Singh Banni, and AAP leader Annu Babbar, were present at the spot.
