Mohali:
The Punjabi Virsa Cultural Society has strongly opposed the reported decision to end Punjab’s permanent membership in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), calling it serious and condemnable.
The society said the move directly impacts Punjab’s rights over its share of water and power, at a time when the state is already facing a water crisis. It alleged that the decision is being seen as an attempt to weaken Punjab’s rightful share, which cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
Society president Satveer Singh Dhanoa urged the Punjab government to take up the matter seriously and strongly present the state’s position before the Central Government. He also called for all possible legal and administrative steps to protect Punjab’s rights.
He appealed to people across all sections of society, including farmers, traders, and social organizations, to rise above political differences and unite on common issues. He warned that failure to do so could have serious consequences for future generations, for which society itself would be responsible.
