Chandigarh :
Women workers of the Punjab BJP staged a protest in Chandigarh against the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill, marching towards Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence.
Chandigarh Police stopped the protesters by putting up barricades, leading to brief scuffles at the site. Several women workers later sat on a dharna on the road.
BJP leader Jai Inder Kaur also joined the protest and raised slogans against the Punjab government after police prevented the march.
Police later detained several women protesters and took them to Sector 3 police station in buses.
The BJP leaders accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to fulfil promises made to women, including financial assistance schemes.
They also alleged that the government was only making symbolic announcements as elections approached and had not sincerely supported women’s issues.
