DC Bans Protests on Buildings and Public Infrastructure Under Section 163

Mohali :

District Magistrate Komal Mittal has imposed a complete ban on protests, rallies and gatherings on water tanks, tube wells, telephone towers, and both government and private buildings within the jurisdiction of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, will remain in force from April 28, 2026 to June 10, 2026.
The directive also prohibits road blockades and demonstrations in and around such structures, citing concerns over law and order.
According to officials, the decision was taken following reports from the Senior Superintendent of Police that various unions and organisations were staging protests on sensitive infrastructure such as water tanks and telecom towers, risking public safety and disturbing peace.
The administration said such actions not only endanger the lives of protesters but also pose a threat to public order, necessitating preventive restrictions.
