Govt Plans to Convert Institutional Land for Industry

Mohali :

The Punjab Government has proposed a major amendment to the Mohali Master Plan by converting 54 acres of land in Manouli village from the “Institutional Area” category to “Industrial and Warehouse Area.”
Before taking a final decision, the government has invited public suggestions and objections for a period of 30 days. Officials said the proposed change could create new employment opportunities for local youth and boost economic activity in the area.
The proposal follows a long-standing demand from residents of Manouli village, who argued that the land earmarked for educational and institutional purposes is surrounded by industrial units and warehouses, making it difficult for large educational institutions to develop there.A review by the Town Planning Department reportedly found that most of the surrounding area is already being used for industrial and warehousing activities, with only 54 acres remaining under the institutional category.
Officials also pointed out that major institutions such as IISER and ISB are already located in nearby sectors, while adequate land has been allocated for universities and hospitals in other parts of Mohali.
The proposed land-use plan has been uploaded on the PUDA website and will also be displayed at key government offices for public review. Citizens can submit their suggestions and objections in writing before the final decision is taken.
The government said public feedback will be considered before moving ahead with the amendment to the master plan.
