Illegal Dhabas, Encroachments and Food Safety Violations Under Scanner: Atul Sharma Seeks Immediate Crackdown in Mohali’s Industrial Area

Mohali :

Social activist and journalist Atul Sharma has written separate representations to the Municipal Commissioner, Mohali, and the Civil Surgeon, District Health Officer, S.A.S. Nagar, urging immediate action against illegal roadside dhabas, encroachments, food safety violations and public health hazards in Industrial Area Phase-7, Mohali

In his representations, Sharma stated that several roadside dhabas and temporary food establishments are allegedly operating on public land at various locations in the industrial area. He also highlighted instances of alleged encroachment on public parks and raised concerns that utensils are being washed directly over storm-water drains, resulting in blocked drainage channels and creating unhygienic conditions that may pose risks to public health.
Addressing the Health Department, Sharma sought a comprehensive inspection of all roadside food establishments under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. He requested verification of food licences and registrations, examination of the quality of edible oil, drinking water and food ingredients, and strict enforcement of food safety and hygiene standards. He also urged the department to take action against illegal tobacco sales, wherever violations are found.
In his letter to the Municipal Commissioner, Sharma called for the removal of unauthorized roadside encroachments, restoration of encroached public parks, cleaning of storm-drains and coordinated action by all concerned departments to ensure compliance with civic, sanitation and public healthregulationsSharma said that Industrial Area Phase-7 is one of Mohali’s busiest industrial hubs, visited daily by thousands of workers, industrialists and commuters. He stressed that ensuring clean surroundings, safe food and encroachment-free public spaces is the responsibility of the authorities and expressed hope that prompt action would be taken in the larger public interest.
