Mohali :
In a major step towards ensuring the safety, dignity and well-being of senior citizens, the Punjab Government has initiated the construction of a modern Old Age Home (Senior Citizens’ Home) in Sector 78, Mohali. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has allocated 2.92 acres of land for the project, and physical possession of the site will be handed over shortly to enable construction work to begin.
Sharing the information, Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government is fully committed to providing senior citizens with a safe, dignified and supportive environment.
She said the proposed facility will not merely be a building but a secure home where destitute and elderly people will receive care, respect, emotional support and a family-like atmosphere.
Highlighting Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the government’s commitment is to ensure that no elderly person in Punjab has to endure loneliness or helplessness in the later years of life. Instead, the aim is to bring comfort, security and smiles to their faces through dedicated welfare initiatives.
Providing an update on the project, the minister said a formal communication has already been sent to the Estate Officer (Plots), GMADA, requesting the early transfer of physical possession of the allotted land to the District Social Security Officer, Mohali, in accordance with prescribed procedures. This will allow construction work to commence without delay.
The Punjab Government believes that the modern Senior Citizens’ Home will provide elderly residents with safe accommodation, quality care and a dignified living environment, strengthening the state’s commitment to senior citizen welfare.
