First Aid Knowledge Essential for Every Citizen: Komal Mittal

Mohali :

Deputy Commissioner-cum-President of the District Red Cross Society, Komal Mittal, said that basic knowledge of first aid is essential for every citizen to help save lives during emergencies and accidents.
Speaking at the concluding session of a 10-day First Aid Training Camp organised by St. John Ambulance and the District Red Cross Society at the District Administrative Complex, she said timely first aid can significantly reduce injuries and improve survival chances before medical help arrives.
The training camp, held from July 6 to July 15, was conducted by Indian Red Cross trainer Sandeep Singh and attended by conductors, drivers, factory workers and nanny students. Participants received practical training in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), artificial respiration, management of unconsciousness, bleeding control, fracture support, burn treatment and snakebite first aid.
Trainer Sandeep Singh highlighted the importance of administering CPR during cardiac arrest, saying prompt intervention can save lives. Participants were also sensitised about the importance of maintaining good mental health alongside physical well-being.
District Red Cross Secretary Harbans Singh encouraged trainees to plant more trees, conserve water, maintain cleanliness, respect parents and elders, and stay away from drugs.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Ankita Kansal, Non-Salaried Secretary-cum-Assistant Commissioner (J), highlighted the history and principles of the Red Cross Movement and its humanitarian work for the poor, sick, needy and differently abled. She appealed to citizens to join the organisation and contribute towards community service.
